HI Everyone!

My name is Emma Toms, I am a student from QUT and I am Currently studying Clinical Exercise Physiology and i love it! After Studying for four years i have found that our bodies are fascinating so i am thinking i want to venture into studying cardiac science Investigations or cardiac rehabilitation. Having spent the majority of my life playing every sport imaginable i always knew i wanted to pursue a career in health and fitness and learn more about the way our bodies work and how to make them healthier. My background is mainly playing, competing and training others in hockey and touch football and i love boxing and running. I currently work as a trainer mainly running boot camps for women as well as private PT sessions, i am also training to become a clinical Pilate's instructor. With my background in sports and fitness, i found that Fitnance would be a great place to further my skills and knowledge as well as meeting a huge dynamic of different people and learning about how i can help them increase fitness, strength and endurance.

Ride to Conquer Cancer

Well done to Martin Corkey, David Cutcheon and Heather Cutcheon for challenging themselves for a great cause. The money raised from this two day race throughout Queensland's countryside will benefit the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. Great to have Fitnance members to join such a great cause!

Short Article on Cooling Down

So did you only think that warming up is important? Cooling down after exercise is just as important, since it helps to reduce the gathering of waste products like lactic acid in your body. People should always remember to use the same amount of time to cool down as well as warming up!

Bec Edwards QUT Prac Student

Hi my name is Bec Edwards,
I am a prac student from QUT, enrolled in the exercise science degree.
When I left school I wasn't completely sure of the career path I was going to take, however was always interested in fitness. Shortly down the track I realised I wanted to persue a career with athletes and helping their injuries through strength and rehabilitation. I would like to continue my studies with physiotherapy in the future. My other qualifications are cert 3 and 4 in fitness (through fitnance) when i was in year 12 via correspondance, cert 4 in massage (current job). I am a middle distant runner who competes up to 5000m in cross country season and 1500m/3000m during track season. It would be great to compete internationally, however have realised its not all about the hard work and training you put in, but been able to stay uninjured. It is through my experience with a major injury that has made me realise how important strength exercises/ conditioning is for a particular sports. Im excited to be doing my prac at Fitnance because it will allow me to gain experience with a wide variety of people, and hopefully gain knowledge on other sports and their conditioning techniques.

A great article about stretching

Stretching - an important part of a fitness program

You may have heard of different recommendations on to stretch or not stretch after exercise. Stretching has been well known to decrease risk of injury and improve range of motion. This article gives you good knowledge of doing stretching and what type of stretching is the best.

Well done

Well done to everyone who finished the Yeppoon half iron-man! All Fitnance members completed the whole event with great results!
